Providence, RI -
Festival Ballet Providence has been invited to participate in the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, as part of the Gala Evening, “Music and the Dance”, June 18th at the Ritz Carleton, Amelia Island, Florida. The dancers will also perform June 19th for a family concert at the Peck Community Center.
Artistic Director Mihialo Djuric will bring four Company members, Jennifer Ricci, Carolyn Dellinger, Gleb Layamenkoff and Alexander Akulov to perform three works from the company repertoire, with the orchestra.
Conceived and directed by Christopher Rex, the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival is in its fifth year, and is recognized as one of the premiere chamber music festivals in the country. From May 28 to June 23, the Festival features over two dozen concerts and events in venues throughout the island community, attracting audience members from throughout the US.
Misha, Managing Director Lisa LaDew and the dancers are departing Providence Wednesday, June 14th for Amelia Island, for rehearsals leading to the performances. Mr. Djuric and Mr. Rex determined the dance repertory to include Colleen Cavanaugh’s Schumann Songs, Mr. Djuric’s Tender Delusions, and a world premiere by Mr. Djuric, “By Ear” (to one of JS Bach’s solos for Cello), all to be accompanied by musicians at the Festival.
This is the first time dance has been included in the Chamber Music Festival’s programming. Its inclusion is the brainchild of Jack and Beverly Kegwin, who split time between their homes in Florida and Rhode Island. Beverly is a member of the Chamber Music Festival’s Board of Trustees, and is thrilled to expand the vision of the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival to include dance, and delighted to sponsor Festival Ballet Providence’s participation in the event. The New York Baroque Dance Company will also participate in the Festival.
