Festival Ballet Providence announces 28th season 2005-2006
Festival Ballet Providence Artistic Director Mihailo Djuric announces the Company's 2005-2006 Season. It is a varied season with three major world premieres, interspersing great classics with the work of talented emerging choreographers, and showcasing the versatility of the company's dancers.
All main stage performances for the 2005-2006 Season will take place in Providence's finest theaters; the VMA Arts & Cultural Center and the Providence Performing Arts Center.
Main Stage Season:
The main stage season opens October 21 - 23, 2005 at the VMA Arts & Cultural Center with the world premiere of Yves de Bouteiller's Romeo & Juliet. While keeping to Shakespeare's beloved story of star-crossed lovers from two conflicted families, this production will bring audiences dramatic and passion-filled choreography. New costumes and sets will round out this engaging new work.
December 16-18, 2005, the Company brings its holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, to the resplendent Providence Performing Arts Center for five memorable performances. Lush sets, bravura dancing and brilliant costumes sparkling with Swarovski crystal stones make this production memorable for the entire family. This production is recognized as an appropriate first trip to the ballet for any theater-goer.
Festival Ballet Providence celebrates Valentine's Day weekend at the VMA Arts & Cultural Center with a special event February 10-12, 2006, Balanchine and MORE! Festival Ballet Providence has received the rights to perform one of George Balanchine's gems, Allegro Brillante. Sharing the bill are world premieres by two exciting young choreographers; a new work by Gianni Di Marco based on the famed Cuban singer Celia Cruz, and a new work by Providence favorite Viktor Plotnikov, choreographer of Festival Ballet Providence successes, The Widow's Broom and Carmen.
The season concludes at VMA April 28-30, 2006 with one of the most thrilling and exhuberant of all the classics, Don Quixote. It is one of the most delightful ballets of the 19th century, with plenty of fancy foot work and comic interludes that bring high entertainment value to the Cervantes novel.
