Festival Ballet Providence brings a dazzling
Nutcracker to the PPAC Stage for the Holiday Season!
Providence, RI - Festival Ballet Providence's celebration of it's 25th Anniversary Season continues with the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker, December 13th, 14th and 15th. Five performances will be held at the opulent Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) Friday at 7:30 PM, Saturday at 2:30 and 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:30 and 7:30 PM.
Festival Ballet Providence Artistic Director Mihailo Djuric has created a Nutcracker production that distinguishes itself with clear, amusing story-telling, breathtaking sets, glittering costumes and bravura dancing from start to finish. His international company of 25 professional dancers are joined onstage by over 75 additional auditioned performers to bring audiences on a magical journey to the "Kingdom of Sweets". This is the story of a young girl whose gift of a Nutcracker doll from her beloved uncle Drosselmeyer leads her from the safe world of her family holiday party to a world of marauding mice, a phalanx of toy soldiers, dancing snow flakes to the confectionary domain of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.
A 30-piece orchestra will under the skilled direction of Edward Markward will bring Tchaikovsky's magnificent score to life. The performance is the perfect escape for the entire family, providing a memorable production that will not soon be forgotten. Festival Ballet Providence's 2002 production of The Nutcracker is supported in part by the generous support of Swarovski, Bank RI, the Rhode Island Parent's Paper, Johnson & Wales University, NBC10, and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts.
Tickets are now on sale, with prices ranging from $15 to $50. Advanced reserved tickets to may be purchased by contacting the PPAC Box Office at 401.421.ARTS, online at www.PPACRI.org, or through Ticketmaster outlets at 401.331.1122.
Opening night post-performance Champagne reception tickets with the performers and sponsors are available to patrons for an entrance fee of $25 per person, or $40 per couple. Call Festival Ballet Providence for details about this limited reception, at 401.353.1129.
Festival Ballet Providence will be offering Dining with Drosselmeyer at Federal Reserve Restaurant, 60 Dorrance Street in combination with the Sunday December 15 performances of The Nutcracker. Combination brunch with costumed Uncle Drosselmeyer character and theater tickets are priced at $65 per person, $45 per chlild under 12 years old, which includes an orchestra section seat to either 2:30 PM or 7:30 PM performance. Price for brunch only is $35 per person, or $15 per child under 12 years old. Dinner seatings are 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM.
