Providence, RI - Festival Ballet Providence, the state’s leading dance company, announces open auditions for the Festival Ballet Providence Junior Company on Sunday September 29, 2002 at noon. Festival Ballet Providence Artistic Director Mihailo Djuric is looking for intermediate and advanced male and female dancers for the Junior Company.
Junior Company auditions will be held Sunday, September 29th at the Company’s studio at 825 Hope Street, Providence, Rhode Island. Dancers must be at least 13 years of age, with at least 4 years of classical ballet training and 2 years of pointe (for the women). Registration for the audition will begin at 11:00 am. The two-hour audition class begins promptly at 12:00 noon. Female dancers are asked to wear a black leotard and pink tights. Pointe shoes are required. Male dancers are asked to wear black tights and white T-shirt. There is a $15 audition fee.
The Festival Ballet Providence Junior Company is an auditioned ensemble of pre-professional advanced level dancers who have the opportunity to perform with the Festival Ballet Providence professional company during its Providence season. Rehearsals take place Wednesday and Friday evenings, and all day Saturday during the academic year. Apprentice and trainee positions are also available to promising young dancers. This program provides young, professional-track dancers excellent training, coaching and wonderful performance opportunities in the city’s most beautiful theaters. It is a key opportunity in a young dancer’s career.
"We are interested in serious dance students who are highly motivated and who can maintain a "B" average in school while participating in a rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule. Excellent musicality and a high level of coordination are also stressed," said Djuric.
Junior Company members will perform as part of Festival Ballet Providence’s 25th Anniversary Season at the Providence Performing Arts Center and VMA Arts and Cultural Center, in productions that include: Giselle, The Nutcracker, Cinderella, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Those who cannot make this audition but are still interested in auditioning should contact the Artistic Director, 401.353.1129.
