Festival Ballet Providence Limited Edition Art Print
by Chris Van Allsburg

Providence, RI - World renowned author and illustrator Chris Van Allsburg has created a limited-edition signed and numbered art print in honor of Festival Ballet Providence’s 25th Anniversary.

The posters, created especially for Festival Ballet Providence, are all signed, numbered and dated by the artist, and are only available with a patron’s gift of $2,000 or more to The Festival Ballet Providence "Providence En Pointe" Capital Campaign. The campaign is designed to raise funds for Festival Ballet Providence’s new home in Providence, enhancing the brilliance of its professional Dance Company, increasing the company’s repertoire and performance schedule, and presenting creative and innovative new works. This is a rare opportunity to acquire Chris Van Allsburg’s artwork, while helping one of the most dynamic artistic and educational institutions in the region.

The winner of two Caldecott medals for Jumanji and The Polar Express, as well as many other distinguished awards for children’s literature, Mr. Van Allsburg was formerly an instructor at the Rhode Island School of Design, and lives in Providence with his wife Lisa and their two children Sophia and Anna. His new book, Zathura, is now available in bookstores and the film version of The Polar Express starring Tom Hanks will be released in 2004.

Mr. Van Allsburg noted, "Festival Ballet Providence is a wonderful institution, a resource for those who are interested in dance and want to learn, and also the home of an absolutely first rate performing company. I wanted to do what I could to encourage others to support ‘Festival’ and to celebrate its contribution to the arts in Rhode Island and beyond."

According to Festival Ballet Providence Board President Don Wineburg, "This is a rare opportunity for collectors of Rhode Island artists to acquire a major piece by a Rhode Island treasure. I can't wait to get mine back from the framing store."
